I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1994 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. At that time, nobody had a mobile phone, the internet was gestating and TVs were square boxy things, not wide. I have a fondness for looking at the past both with nostalgia and dismay. So, reflecting feelings of urban tension and confrontation particularly interests me. It’s those fleeting moments before the human brain can process the fight or flight reaction which I’m drawn to.

Police, housing and thoughts on community all feature heavily within my paintings and collage work. My style is influenced by the combination of graphic elements and painterly textures which have been prevalent throughout my career in graphic design. Imagery will lie next to and underneath fields of colour often punctuated by graphic shapes and aerosol spray. Smashing.
